Andy Ducett

Check out Andy Ducett. He’s a minneapolis based artist involved in the Rosalux crew. Great photo drawings, collages and installations. There are tons of crappy installation artists out there. In fact, maybe more than any other medium. But Andy Ducett is the real deal.
Victory Gardens
I love the Twin Cities. I really do. But here’s an example of a really cool, simple social program, and it ain’t here. Check out Victory Gardens. A small start-up non-profit dedicated to taking small urban plots of dirt and growing food, in San Francisco. And when i say small plots, I mean small. They’re transitioning “backyard, front yard, window boxes, rooftops and unused land into food production areas.” People have plots of dirt, which can produce food. Simple, elegant solutions. Taking inspiration from WWII era food production, Victory Gardens is (if it works) really impressive. If anybody knows of something like this in MSP let me know.
Superhopper, The Plastic Constellations, William Elliot Whitmore
This saturday St. Paul will see a fury it hasn’t seen since Norm switched sides. Ok, so Superhopper has been known to play a show here or there, but it’s been a while and it’ll be good. Will Kermit and Kate’s recent nuptials dampen the on stage antics? We will have to see.
Playing with them are The Plastic Constellations. The first time I saw TPC I had just moved to Minneapolis, and some friends took me to a coffeeshop called the Firefox. It happened to be a TPC record release party. In that night I become one of the converted. I thought for sure they would be headlining MTV spingbreak by now, and though that hasn’t happened, they have put out some of my favorite rock n’ roll over the past few years. It’s always smart, clever and witty without being intentionally enigmatic.
On a different note. I heard Hockey Night is no longer. Long Live Hockey Night.
Jug’s Birthday
Sweet rockshow coming up at the beloved Turf Club in St Paul, in honor of every bodies favorite grizzled ole’ teddybear Jug. You may know him from the door at the Turf, or the fourth stool from the left at the clown lounge. Skoal Kodiak, Big Timber, Falcon Crest, and the Danforths.
Tuesday May 2nd. $4. Me, Darcie and Tom made the posters. Who can argue with this line-up on a tuesday night. Make sure you get there to see the Danforths, they’re quirky and weird and art-astic.
