Architecture

My first home…

living …looks nothing like these. LivingHomes is a developer focusing on modular housing and sustainable architecture. They’re currently located out of southern California, so us middle-coasters are out of luck. Ray Kappe and David Hertz are their main architects, and their modernist design philosophies are apparent in their work. More than anything else, I was impressed with their environmental commitment to building homes with minimal ecological footprints. If you’re buying a house, think modular.

Curbly - DIY Design Community

curbly 2
Curbly is a community based web site for ‘people who love where they live.’ The community seems uber friendly with users asking, and answering all types of home improvement questions. It’s got a slew of articles and interviews featuring interesting happenings in the design community, and how-tos ranging from grilling tips to wall hangings and image transfers.

Their get inspired section is particularly appealing, but be careful, you’ll have ripped apart your living room before you know what hit you. The best part about Curbly is it was founded right here in our little city that could: St. Paul.

Check it out, and support a couple of local st. pauli’s with fine taste.

Surface View

surface view Surface View is a super cool little company out of england. They make bespoke wall murals. Pick your print, and send them the dimensions of your wall, and they send you your mural. There’s a bunch of retro-eque images. Think sunset wallpaper, but awesome. The website is also pretty cool, if a bit jarring. Nice use of liquid flash layout.
